Honoring a Legacy of Service

December 12, 2025 | Kieways 2025 Q4

Coming together to give back has long been part of Kiewit’s culture.

Each September, Kiewit celebrates Volunteers Month — an annual tradition that honors the birthday and legacy of Peter Kiewit. While volunteer efforts continue year-round, September offers a special opportunity to focus on community service and unite employees around a shared mission of giving back.

Spirit of stewardship

In 2025, employees across North America brought that legacy to life by rolling up their sleeves and dedicating thousands of hours to improve the places where they live and work. The stories highlighted here offer just a glimpse into the many ways Kiewit teams support their communities.

In Hawaii, employees contributed to preservation work at a culturally significant site, helping sustain the landscape through hands-on care.

Across the Pacific Northwest and Southwest United States, teams supported back-to-school efforts and community-assistance programs, helping essential resources get to families, students and pet owners in need.

In Texas, employees packaged more than 23,000 meals for seniors across Southeast Texas. They also built 75 LEGO models for elementary robotics competitions in partnership with FIRST in Texas, a nonprofit that promotes STEM education through hands-on learning and robotics programs. Teams donated more than 50 books and custom-made activity kits to patients and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Houston. They contributed 80 hours of manual labor to safety and maintenance projects at Henry’s Home Horse & Human Sanctuary, a nonprofit that provides animal-assisted therapy and rehabilitation services for veterans and first responders. Employees also took part in environmental cleanup efforts, removing invasive plants to help restore the native habitat.

Farther north, employees in Nebraska volunteered at the Food Bank for the Heartland, where they packaged bulk food items to support families across the region. They also removed more than 2,200 pounds of trash during a cleanup at Levi Carter Park — surpassing last year’s total by more than 1,300 pounds.

In Washington, D.C., and Virginia, teams supported local hunger relief and well-being through regional trash cleanups, food drives and volunteer participation in the Food for Others 5K.

In Ontario, employees took part in meaningful volunteer efforts, including building a toy shed for The Darling Home for Kids — creating a dedicated space to support play and comfort for children with complex medical needs.

While these stories represent only a fraction of the events held across the company, they highlight a unified focus: strengthening communities through action. Each team, regardless of size or location, contributes to a broader culture of stewardship that endures well beyond the month of September.
